1977 Firebird Trans Am Options |
Firebird Trans Am options for 1977 are listed below along with the sales code and retail price of the option in 1977. If you are lucky enough to have found your Trans Am build sheet you can decipher the codes here in this listing. The build sheet looks like this and is usually found behind the rear seat , stuffed in between the cushion and spring. That is where I found mine. If all else fails, you can order a "VIN Information Packet" from PHS Automotive Services, Inc. (Pontiac Historical Services) which will tell you all of the options your Firebird or Trans Am was equipped with when it rolled off the assembly line. Both the build sheet and the window sticker are great items to showcase at your local cruise ins or your Pontiac / Trans Am car shows you may be attending. I want to make sure I mention that if you are planning on purchasing a 1977 Trans Am , or ANY year Firebird Trans Am please do your due diligence first and research what you are buying! These cars are really gaining value fast and there are a lot of "imitations" out there in the form of the so called "Bandit" Trans Ams. Pontiac NEVER made a "Bandit" Trans Am. This term came from the 1977 Universal Motion Picture "Smokey and The Bandit". In this movie Burt Reynolds drove a 1977 "Y82" option code Special Edition Trans Am and Pontiacs sales went through the roof with the movies popularity. So the "Bandit" term is just another way of saying Special Edition. There is a problem with this though. If you are in search for a "real" Special Edition Trans Am , make absolutely sure they can provide you proof of the "Y82" or even rarer "Y81" (no T-Tops) option code. I see cars being passed off all the time on Ebay and other places as "Bandit" Trans Ams when in fact they are just striped up to look like a Special Edition. Take for instance my car. Would you have known it wasn't a real Special Edition? I never plan on selling my car but if I do I will make certain that whoever is buying it knows that it isn't. I created the look for my own personal enjoyment. As long as whoever you are buying from does the same, I see no problem in that. Beware though, there are many crooks out there. Your very best bet for an authentic "Y81" or "Y82" Special Edition Trans Am is to buy the information pack from PHS. It could save you a fortune down the road. 1977 Trans Am Option Codes
